40“Whoever receives you receives me, and whoever receives me receives him who sent me.

41The one who receives a prophet because he is a prophet will receive a prophet’s reward, and the one who receives a righteous person because he is a righteous person will receive a righteous person’s reward.

42And whoever gives one of these little ones even a cup of cold water because he is a disciple, truly, I say to you, he will by no means lose his reward.”

MATTHEW 10:40-42

COMMENTARY

Continuing with his encouragement to persevere in the faith, Lord Jesus ensures his listeners the divine origin of his mission, by saying that whoever receives his disciples and their message, are receiving Him, who taught them that message or faith repentance and true morality. And finally, whoever receives Jesus, is in reality, receiving GOD YHWH, who sent Him. Because everything Jesus had, his authority, the power to heal, cast out demons, resurrect the death and forgive sins, EVERYTHING, was created and given to Him by YHWH GOD, who alone is the ultimate source of faith, forgiveness and salvation.

Afterwards, Lord JESUS encouraged people to support his disciples, all of them while they preach the gospel of forgiveness and redemption, by ensuring that ANYONE who gives one of his disciples, man or woman, even a glass of water, will not be left without a proper reward.
