WHY WAS HEROD ANTIPAS’s MARRIAGE TO HERODIAS CONDEMNED
BY JOHN THE BAPTIST?
Because HERODIAS
was the divorced wife of HEROD ANTIPAS’s half-brother, HEROD PHILLIP II, Tetrarch
of BATANEAS, TRACHONITIS and GUALANITIS, at the nor-east end of Lake Galilee, including
all the east coast of the lake.
In Torahic Law,
a Jewish man could not marry his sister-in-law, ever, unless she was a widow, and
the deceased brother had left no descendants to her.
(Leviticus 18:16;
20:21).
