NO ONE KNOWS THE TIME AND THE HOUR

NO ONE KNOWS THE DAY AND THE HOUR

36“But concerning that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father only.

37For as were the days of Noah, so will be the coming of the Son of Man.

38For as in those days before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day when Noah entered the ark, 39and they were unaware until the flood came and swept them all away, so will be the coming of the Son of Man.

40Then two men will be in the field; one will be taken and one left. 41Two women will be grinding at the mill; one will be taken and one left.

42Therefore, stay awake, for you do not know on what day your Lord is coming.

43But know this, that if the master of the house had known in what part of the night the thief was coming, he would have stayed awake and would not have let his house be broken into. 44Therefore you also must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.”

MATTHEW 24:36-44

COMMENTARY

Finishing his speech about the end of Jerusalem and his second coming, Lord Jesus clarified that the exact date nobody knows, not even Him.

How could GOD not know the date of his return to Earth?

Because He spoke like the son, the human Jesus who was limited as a man in all things a man without sin is limited, so He could not know the future, since this secret was hidden in the mind of the Father (Philippians 2:6-7). Regardless, He never spoke in his divine condition, which is equal to the Father, because as GOD, He knows everything and He knows the date of his return.

But He warned us, that like in the days of Noah, the world will be living according to their desires with total ignorance of the times and signs of Jesus’s return. Life will continue as normal, ‘according to the unbelievers’, but suddenly Jesus will appear in Heaven, and rapturing his Church in the air, from the grave and from the living, will come to rule the Earth.

Does this imply a ‘secret rapture’?

No, it does not. It’s a description of the events immediate to Jesus’ return (1Thessalonians 4:15-17).

So, He warned us to be alert, because He will come unsuspectedly, so that people are caught living according to their true nature, and not prepared hypocritically to receive Him.

But to us, He has let us know the ‘signs’ prior to that unknown date, so that in his mercy, we won’t be caught unprepared, because if we do, ‘we will be cut in pieces and put with the hypocrites”

(Matthew 24:51)
