A Human is composed of a matter and a spirit (Genesis
2:7).
The material part is the body and its organs, the
spirit is the invisible energy that gives life to this material organism, and
the union of both at the time of conception gives birth to the consciousness or
“Soul” (1Thessalonians 5:23),
which from that time onwards is inseparable from the spirit and will become
united with the body again at the time of the Resurrection.
When a believer participates of the Holy Supper at
our Lord’s Table, he really partakes from the real Body and Blood of our Lord
Jesus Christ, and therefore his whole being is sanctified.
When we take communion, the physical part of the
Eucharist, the bread and the wine, being material come into our body via the
mouth, and from there to our blood stream and all our cells, sanctifying every
inch of our bodies. Our material organism becomes literally holy until we
desecrated it again by committing sin.
The spiritual reality of Jesus present in the
elements, sanctify our Spirit and the exercise of faith and will during the
participation of the Sacrament, sanctifies our Soul (1 Corinthians 11:27).
