THE IMPORTANCE TO READ THE GOSPELS

Image
Some modern Christian churches have developed the custom to design their own study system around the Scriptures, that do not follow the traditional denominational pattern of their organizations, or sometimes just because they are independent; they follow their own topical themes, or do a chronological reading of the Bible, but as an overall, the reading of the words of Jesus in the four gospels are overlooked or rarely read on Sundays.
This custom is so extended, that it seems not to have risen any further comments in the congregations, and happily, they all have settled for this practice. Even though all Scripture is God inspired and ‘useful for instruction, conviction, correction and training in righteousness’, not all Scripture enjoys the same degree of importance in the process of salvation.
Certainly, it is not the same to read the book of Genesis, to read the one of the minor prophets, or the book of Psalms. They all have different degrees of theology involved, and the lessons we …

WHY GOD PRESCRIBED SACRAMENTS

Image
Humans are not angelic beings. We belong to a special kind of creation made out of matter and spirit. A human cannot be considered such in a disembodied state or as unanimated matter, and that is why we await the resurrection of the dead at the Final Judgement, where reward and penance will be given to humans in the same condition, they lived in.
As a unity of matter and spirit, humans can be affected in different ways through physical and spiritual stimulus. Whatever stimulates the spirit will have material consequences, and vice versa. That is why the people of God have always practiced fasting and ascetism, to submit the flesh and the spirit to the Will of God (Matthew 3:4; Luke 5:35).
Knowing this, as our Creator, Lord Jesus established since the beginning of mankind, different physical acts that reflected spiritual realities and our covenants with God, to the benefit of our beings as a whole.
As soon as Adam and Eve fell, God established animal sacrifice as atonement for sins (Gen…

CAN CHRISTIANS CONSUME ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES?

Image
This is a very discussed issue in the Christian world; especially when abusive consumption of alcoholic beverages can cause embarrassment and dependency in all those who drink it.
Some have come to think, driven by a desire of pious behaviour, that neither Lord Jesus not the Apostles drank alcoholic beverages, but that every time ‘wine’ is mentioned in the NT in relation to them, it is referring to grape juice before coming to fermentation, which in turn does not cause drunkenness.
But the truth is simple.
JESUS DRANK ALCOHOL
Lord Jesus drank alcoholic beverages that caused insobriety, which served as an excuse for the Pharisees, to call him a ‘drunkard’ (Matthew 11:19; Luke 7:34).
Even though this remark was a mockery to the Lord, it would not have strength if the beverages that Lord Jesus drank had not the capacity to cause drunkenness.
We also see in the scene of the Canaan wedding (John 2), that this kind of ‘wine’ (οἶνον), the NT speaks about, was in reality wine as we know it toda…

MARY OF NAZARETH IN THE NATIVITY OF JESUS

Image
Sometimes, driven by the enthusiasm of the nativity of our Lord Jesus, and in the trouble to give him all the attention and worship he deserves, we forget the role of his mother, Mary of Nazareth, the most important instrument by which the miracle of the incarnation took place.
All the reliable information we have from our Lord’s life, it is contained only in the New Testament, and most importantly, in the four Gospels that conform his biography
These four biographies were written by people who were not personal witnesses of the whole life of our Lord (Luke 1:1-4). At its best, they are attributed to two members of his Twelve Apostles, and two of their immediate disciples. All the information they gathered about the life of Jesus up to his adult public life, it must have eventually come from Joseph and Mary’s personal testimony and stories. And from these, some of them, like the annunciation, were only known by Saint Mary alone. (Luke 1:26-38).
As we know from Scripture, all the great me…

THE FEELINGS IN DISCERMENT OF SPIRITUAL THINGS

Image
We may have heard believers say from time to time, that they had a feeling about a certain situation, and they decided to act upon that sentiment. Some may have prayed about it, and some just acted immediately on the feelings they experienced without any prayer. And some may have had good results, and some not so good.
The fact is that millions of Christian in the world give these kind of feelings and ideas, the value of God given premonitions, and because they come strongly into their souls, most of them act upon them as it they were been guided by the Holy Spirit. And as this kind of behaviour runs into all areas of life, it affects work, family life, marital relationships, friendships and even spiritual life in general.
But how much importance should we give feelings or ideas that appear in us suddenly with or without prayer, to be used as guide for our everyday living?
The Scripture shows us that even from the times when the New Testament was not finished and compiled yet, and God’s r…

WHY DID GOD ALLOW THE CONQUERING OF THE AMERICAN CONTINENT?

Image
Every Thanksgiving Day, Christians cannot celebrate the arrival of the first English ship to the American Continent, without wondering in their minds why God allowed Europeans to come to this new world, to settle and take over the control of the land from their natural inhabitants, to the point of total transculturation, so much in the Nordic North America, to the Latin Central and South American areas of the continent.
Most leftist and liberals will tell of how unjust this invasion was, and how advanced native Americans were, specially the Aztecs and the Incas in the northern and southern areas of the continent; and how cruel and bloody the annihilation they were subjected to, to almost extinction.
However, historical evidence and biblical study, shows that this is not quite the case.
The Bible tells us that God has decreed the existence of nations and empires, and nothing escapes his mighty control over them (Proverbs 21:1; Ezra 1:1-2; Daniel 2:3-7; 4:17; John 19:10-11; Romans 13:1).

ARE MIRACLES AVAILABLE THESE DAYS?

Image
Some Christians think that God’s portents have ceased for the world these days, including all supernatural gifts mentioned mainly in Acts and 1Corinthians.
Their argument is that the reason for these miracles were the establishing of the Church on Earth, and for this, God accompanied his Apostles and all supernaturally gifted people of the time with portents and miracles, which was the way God showed his approval to their teachings about Jesus as Lord and Messiah.
Furthermore, they point to the declaration of St Paul in 1Corinthians 13:10: “But when the perfect comes, the partial will pass away”, assuming that this refers to the final compilation of the Scripture, and that for this reason, no more miracles are needed to prove anything. Now God just demanded ‘faith’ to the Scripture, and that’s it. The age of miracles is gone.
ANALYSING CERTAIN DETAILS
This is a very subjective view on the matter.
When Lord Jesus performed miracles, he said that the believers will make the same and more, …

THE REASONS FOR DIVORCE

Image
Divorce is a hard reality that many people have to face in these ungodly times, and that, sadly, includes Christians as well.
Divorce has been in history as the official break up of a legally recognized marriage, since the beginning of society; and it was also adopted by the early Jews during the times prior to the coming of the Messiah, Jesus Christ.
In the Law of Moses, divorced dissolved the marriage union at the sole instance of the husband, by declaring that he was divorcing his wife, for any reason, while giving her a written statement of this. (Deuteronomy 24:1-2).
Jesus changed this Mosaic Law to the original form in Eden, teaching that marriage was for life, as God intended it to be, declaring also that any break up in marriage, except for sexual desire, was to be considered adultery:
“But I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, makes her the victim of adultery, and anyone who marries a divorced woman commits adultery” Matthew 5:32
“Because of yo…

THE NEED OF PERSONAL CONVERSION TO BE SAVED

Image
One distinct feature of Christianity, it is the personal faith demanded from all humans, and the voluntary submission to God’s will through that faith placed on Jesus as the Son of God and Saviour of all humanity.
There is not ground to support infant baptism in the Scripture. All of the sections that deal with this sacrament, as well as with the Lord’s Supper; personal faith it is assumed from the recipients (Mark 16:16), and we are told that without faith, “we cannot please God” (Hebrews 11:6).
However, infants were commenced to be baptized after the apostolic era, under the belief that through the consecrated water of baptism, a newly born would be saved from Original Sin, thus ensuring their ‘salvation’, and Holy Communion given to them as a consequence, custom that was changed later in the West to a more conscious age.
But however these and other things were done, even in the case of some people believing in gracious justification of a newly baptized baby; all agreed that this bap…

WHAT IS PROTESTANTISM?

Image
Protestantism is the second largest form of the Christian Faith with more of 900 million adherents in the whole world, representing 40% of the whole Christian religion.
It officially started with the Reformation movement in the XVI century by Martin Luther, John Calvin and Thomas Crammer and that developed into a force that travelled to the whole world, and that has affected nations, culture and politics wherever it has gone.
HOW MANY MOVEMENTS
Most people think that because the Reformation was started by several of these men independently from each other, they all are different Churches with opposite doctrinal beliefs and in enmity with one another. But this is not the case at all.
Contrary to the idea that the Church that Jesus founded, is a specific organization under an infallible human world leader; Protestantism acknowledges the Church of Christ to be a community of believers, organized under the instructions of Christ and his Apostles as expressed in the New Testament. In fact, on…

DID ADAM HAVE TO EAT TO KEEP ALIVE?

Image
Most Christians agree that Adam and Eve were created immortal physically, that is, that they were never going to age and suffer death as we do today.
So, if the first human couple were immortal by nature, the question is:
Did they need to eat food in order to survive as humans do today?
WHAT THE BIBLE SAYS
First, we need to demystify the creation of human nature. The Bible speaks that God created the trees, green leaves and fruits as food for all living creatures, including animals and humans (Genesis 1:29-30). From this we deduct that when God said that humans would ‘Lord’ over all living creatures on the planet, He did not mean that we were going to use them as food or killing them (Genesis 1:28).
Another thing to consider is the circumstances to what the human nature would be subjected.
Adam and Eve were not given evil inclinations and uncontrollable passions like we experience today. They are the fruit of a post Adamic state, subjected to inclination to sin; but the first couple were …

IS A SERVANT OF GOD FREE OF GOD’s JUDGEMENT?

Image
It is believed by sections of the Christian population, that all ‘Servants of God’, that is, men and women who have dedicated their lives to serve God and the Church, and preaching the Gospel to all; have already won their entry to Heaven.
These, however, are two concepts totally distinct from each other, and places salvation on a personal meritorious scale, leaving aside the Atoning Sacrifice of our Lord Jesus for the salvation of our lives.
The idea itself, it is appealing to many. What else can an average human think of someone who preaches the Gospel, brings to salvation many lost people, lives according to the commandments of Lord Jesus, and miracles are performed through them?. The most logical thing would be to assume that God is with them, and at their moment of their death, their entry to God’s Presence is guarantee beyond any doubt.
If things are as good as that, it is very probable that they will be saved as we think, and not only that, rewarded greatly for their loyalty to G…
